stormwolf, the "you obviously don't even bother to read" comment is a common tactic of someone losing an argument trying to convince themselves that they are still in the right but are being ignored, or misinterpreted. I agree with your arguments. And just because i can, the a/an is just as concrete as the "i before e except after c" argument, which means for those who dont know that there are exceptions to grammatical rules... you don't write or verbalize the request for "a honest opinion." Its "an honest..." using this as an example of another time its not held, because its based more on sound than the actual first letter being consonant or vowel. oh and please excuse my spelling.

ehh... forgot exactly what i was going to say about the post in general... other than its doesnt really matter to me what their race or culture is, its their actions that count....

i need to start typing in notepad before every clicking reply.... stupid memory...

Isn't the server in the central dateline time? That means it is either in north or south America... Not China.

The server is based in America, BUT the owners of the game are based in China.

To the OP: You're incredible naive.

I tool around these forums as much as anyone, and I don't see anyone bashing chinese people or any even thinly veiled racism.

UMGE is a chinese company. That is not a bad thing.

UMGE is a chinese gold farming company. That *IS* a bad thing. Their company has been built, developed, formulated, and created around the principle of stealing intellectual property, violating EULAs and ToS, and breaking the law. That *IS* a bad thing.

If you do some research on the internet, you'll find out that their business practices are unethical, and there are many reasons why potential customers should not dare giving them their credit card or any financial information.

I say "chinese gold farmer" like a dirty word because it is. I speak fluent Mandarin, and my success in other MMOs has largely been partly attributable to me developing relationships with and interacting with chinese farmers.

Its incredibly naive of you to decide that people are being racist because you hear the word Chinese and in the same paragraph, something negative about this company. Did you do ANY research? Do you have ANY IDEA what you're talking about?

The sentence "The American President George Bush was an idiot" doesn't mean that all Americans are idiots.

Nor does talking about chinese gold farmers, or one particular company (UMGE) and unethical business practices mean that anyone thinks that all chinese people are to be stereotyped into one category.

It only means that you're daft, have no idea what you're talking about, and are just posting for shock value. Go away.

Well I'm naive about many things in life. This particular subject however, while luckily never having been a victim of racism, I have witnessed enough of to know bigots when I meet them.

Better do some more tooling without those blinkers mate.

    Well exactly...

UMGE is a chinese gold farming company. That *IS* a bad thing. Their company has been built, developed, formulated, and created around the principle of stealing intellectual property, violating EULAs and ToS, and breaking the law. That *IS* a bad thing.

I wasn't commenting on the business practice. I shall defer to your knowledge of this field. It was never the issue.

Yeah some of my best friends are gay but....

Its incredibly naive of you to decide that people are being racist because you hear the word Chinese and in the same paragraph, something negative about this company. Did you do ANY research? Do you have ANY IDEA what you're talking about?
Well plenty of other people have noticed the same thing from the (admittedly unexpected) massive response to this post. We must all be smoking the same drugs huh?

The sentence "The American President George Bush was an idiot" doesn't mean that all Americans are idiots.
Someone voted the nutter in. But no, I take that point, I know of many sane and reasonable Americans. Don't remember anti-Americanism being the issue but hey it seems to have turned into a free-for-all

Nor does talking about chinese gold farmers, or one particular company (UMGE) and unethical business practices mean that anyone thinks that all chinese people are to be stereotyped into one category.
Some people do though, and have posted as such. It's very sad but you have to be pretty naive to believe they don't. I was hoping that my post might make a few see sense. Only seems to have inflamed the issue unfortunately. That's my naivity at work.

It only means that you're daft, have no idea what you're talking about, and are just posting for shock value. Go away.

    Well how rude.
Done everything the way the Quests told you it should be but can't see how on earth the top players get their armies and score? This is what's going on

It's nationalism. Chinese people are just as nationalist as the rest of us, too.

Anyways, I'd never heard of a game made by Chinese people before, I think they did a pretty good job. Anybody from any country can make a crappy game, nice to see China exporting some good intellectual property I like the original graphics.

... really don't see what this issue has to do with the creators being Chinese.

People's Republic of China (PRC), commonly known as Communist China or simply China, has control over mainland China and the largely self-governing territories of Hong Kong (since 1997) and Macau (since 1999).

The bottom line is that business is business.

Chinese, Japanese, American, Norewegian, South African - it doesn't matter where you live, because code is code - it's called a programming Language for a reason. Anyone can learn to speak Flash, C++, Python, VB, or any other programming language.

With that said, then you run into the same issue that they have in almost every other industry in the US and Europe. It's cheaper to build most products in other countries, because the wages are lower, and so are the benefits.

This trend will continue to grow as long as that huge gap in cost to produce exists.

With regards to the cost of the in game items. That's simple business math. It doesn't matter where you live, business is business. You're going to try and make as much profit as you can. If people don't buy the in game coins, they will lower the price on them in order to increase their revenue.

At this point, I would guess that there are plenty of people shelling out cash for coins, otherwise I would suspect we'd have seen a price drop on them by now.
