Thread: Lol at this 'free' game

They wouldn't need to rely on donations if they thought of ways to keep people interested in the game, as in have some sort of end game at all. Also, get rid of a lot of the useless trash they have in the stores (nothing but city teleporters and medal boxes are worth spending cents on IMO) and put something worthwhile in there.

People who don't want to pay will grind it out, people who do want to pay will buy it at the CS, and people who don't care will do neither.
Indeed, but most other MMOs with such items and extras don't make those items and extras a requirement for advancement.

Oh, I'm not saying they should make it quick and easy. But I nonetheless stand by my opinion that things are broken the way that they are. A better model, perhaps, would be slightly higher drop rates, but making valley spam tactics completely ineffective. So then, you'd be attacking more valleys, for a somewhat higher chance at a prize, rather than attacking the same valley, over and over and over and over, for a miniscule chance at receiving it. I'm pretty sure that drop rates could be tweaked without turning people off to the shop.

Many games wouldn't make the items required for advancement exclusively cash shop items.

If the rates are really that bad, then...well it bites and they should increase it, but the fact remains that they are possible to get ingame still. Would you honestly rather the droprate was 0% and the one and only way to get them was from the CS, rather than give you this small chance of drops?
It isn't hyperbole. Go read the thread about best case scenario. People are throwing .1% around, but I'm pretty sure it's a fraction of that. I would almost rather it was 0% just because then you wouldn't spend your time getting frustrated on something that is statistically very remote. They have in effect removed content to try to make players spend money, rather than adding content that would make it worthwhile to.

As I jus' said to Ryan; if the rates are really that low then I'm not going to disagree; they should be higher, but it's still better than nothing to be fair. On earlier servers though, the rates are acceptable by anyone's standards.

Most don't, but some defintely do. There are some games where you can't reach the maximum level without CS items. Some games where you can't use equipment w/o needin' CS. Lets' not forget refinement; I can't think of a single game that allows you to even halfway refine/upgrade your gear w/o absolute neccesity for CS items; and to keep on par with the other players/pvm you need to refine; I consider that a legimate block in advanacement in a game.

What makes you think that a betetr game becomes cheaper to run? They require donations/money whether the game is terrible or the best ever. No matter what they have in the CS they will rely on player money to continue to run. People don't sit in a game and jus' donate becasue they like it (well some do, but not nearly enough).
The very fact that you look at the CS selection and think that you don't need it all is what makes it a good CS, imo. I look at the CSs in most games and think "damn, I want/need most of those things to keep on par" and am forced to either pay or find an alternative. Evony CS is extremely optional in that respect.

I don't think a better game makes it cheaper, I think having some sort of end-game content keeps people around and interested, which in turn affords you the opportunity to sell them things. Also, the dedicated players in the long run are the ones that are more likely to spend money multiple times except for the fact that they know there's no rush to get to the endgame because there's nothing to do.

    I agree half and half.
Some more endgame items to buy would be good from their point of view and ours; gets them money and keeps up interested.
But they'd have to be well thought out. Make them not good enough and no one buys it, thinkin' it was jus' some scam to get money.
Make them too important and people will complain that they're tryin' to impose more limits and goin' further down the road of thinkin' that you need to pay to advance.

As it is, neither of those apply and keeps endgamers stable. It's jus' up to them to release slow content or Age II before everyone at endgame gets too bored.

Also, to break this down, let's pretend like rose medals are a .1% chance to drop now (I don't think they are). To get 4 medals you would on average need to attack 4000 times.
According to Hob's, you have a .517% chance to win 100 cents from the wheel and just buy the medal box. So you would statistically need 200 days on average to get that. So unless you're willing to commit to doing 20+ attacks a day for most of the next year, you're better off waiting and hoping to win the 100 cents. Not to even factor in lion medals.

    This game is 100% free.
You can do just as much without paying as you can with paying.
Is it harder?Yes. Is it more fun?In my opinion, yes.
Where's the fun in speeding thru the game by paying?
