I beat my dogs for doing stuff like crapping on the rug (which I always have to clean. They do know better), barking non-stop for no reason (They're indoor dogs I'm home most of the day everyday), and for not laying down and shutting the hell up when I'm trying to sleep.

Yeah I do that too. But I have to use more negative reinforcement because I have a bunch of dogs and they're a pack. Having dogs is far different when they're a pack, you have to take the alpha position and beat any that question your authoritaw.
