This is an option in teh Ralley Point screen. Why woudl one ever do this? Attacking Army has lots or Archers and ou have lots of Cavalry?
Any idea what the actual effect of this is?

I have an idea.
If your gate is open, your army will go out and fight the enemies.
If it is closed, the enemies will attack your wall and fortifications, and if your wall is destroyed, then they will fight your army.
Unless you like walls in a perfectly pristine state then, why would you open your gate..?

Zenrax you fun killer. :/
You could have at least asked Thermyte to use proper spelling.
Darwin, you could have when you posted your "idea." Unless you felt it necessary to leave out all pertinent information.

i find it funny that darwin has an idea (but doesn't say it) lol
Well, let's say you have level 10 walls, and 10 thousand ballistae. You have spent millions of each resource on your walls, but the enemy has brought 10k catapults. You could either have your valuable walls pummeled back to lvl 0 by the 'pults, or you could send out your ballistae and kick the crap out of them beforehand.
I recognize that this is an extreme example, but the principle is still the same.
I was not aware that when walls were destroyed that they reverted completely back to level 0. I had thought that they retained the level, but sustained damage, completely repairable.
