Do you have any more information about that Sega UK lawsuit, like what it was about? I couldn't find anything about it yet.

I do not know the laws just yet except to say that it is not Illegal to charge for beta software. It is a common, and vile underhanded sneaky, practice to release software as beta to protect yourself when your product causes damages. Microsoft has released several of it's latest products (including Vista I believe) with a notice that the software was still Beta and as such any damages caused by it are your own fault.

The laws for Beta software are very specific, which is why I would like to read more about that Sega UK case so I can find out what the UK's laws are and know if UMGE is actually breaking them by giving people an option to spend money to improve the game.

I do agree that UMGE has not done a good job at telling everyone whether Civony is a Beta game or not and you would probably win a false advertising case. Check their terms of use contract to make sure it doesn't mention beta, otherwise you did agree that you had read and understood those terms.
