Default So how do you folks feel about Duping and Spying?

I'm being serious here.. Playing on 62 and it's been made known that at least one user has multiple accounts that he gets on multiple alliances and then feeds one info about the others.

How do you folks feel about this practice? It seems pretty commonplace which to be honest worries me a little bit.

There are spies in real life, why not have them in games such as this?

besides from the multi account, you could just get your friend to join another alliance and have him spy on them for you...

True, but the question was regarding duping and doing it.
Seems like multi-accounts isn't something folks are worried about happening in this game.
Dumped one guy from my alliance cause he kept trying to get 5 accounts (that he admitted were all him) in. So noone can tell me there is a rule or anything against duping as its not even close to being enforced.

What's to stop someone from doing it? If I have 2 accounts on the same computer, but they each have a different email, whos to say it's not just me and my roommate. We could only have one computer, should we be banned for this? We could also be the same person spying on people in different alliances, there's no way to tell which is the case, so it's just part of the game and needs to be tolerated as something that people will do.

Well, Having multiple accounts in one alliance isn't as unfair as having multiple accounts in multiple alliances.
Having somebody spy into another alliance is okay, there is no rule against that, but having somebody make multiple accounts and manipulate themselves into other alliances is completely off the wall.

I personally dislike spies in alliances. I have expelled people and sent my entire alliance after them after finding out that they were a spy from another alliance.

My old alliance simply upgraded our academy and researched Meta Anti Spy techs.

If you think you have a spy in your alliance there's several things to pay attention to:

    1. Their log in times. Keep an eye on players with low prestige that log on daily or multiple times a day. Multiple log ins might suggest the spy account is being used by several different people to spy on your alliance.

    2. Their activity in chat. Simple questions such as "How red is your food production?" or "How many ATs do you have?" asked repeatedly by the same person is not a good sign. Also, players that started out chatty and then clammed up need to be reminded to speak up more often. It's not easy to keep up with chat in two different alliances. Players that just don't talk whatsoever should be viewed with extreme suspect.

    3. Their battle activity. If you're at war with a local alliance and a player in question is located near the enemy and is not getting attacked nor doing any attacking of their own...

    4. Their ID. For some reason a fair number of spies do very little to make their spy account's ID much different than their main account. If the ID is Jason094, do a search for just "Jason" in stats and see if there any similar IDs in nearby alliances. Names like bugga or Deceitus are also questionable.

    5. Their backstory. If you have accepted a new member as a result of another alliance breaking up, take a look into why their previous alliance fell apart. Was it the result of a war? Are you now fighting that same enemy?

You can also use the spy against him/herself to discover if there is one present in your alliance. Let's say you're at war and one of your member is offline and has been attacked several times. Lie. Say outloud in chat that you've just reinforced them with 200k archers or 150k swords. If the player being attacked is online and you talk about how you've just reinforced him and the attacks are recalled without any scouting from the enemy...that's a blatant sign of a poorly trained spy.

Keep track of who is attacked and when. If your enemy seems to attack players when they are not online, it means they have been able to track your players schedule. This isn't definite proof of a spy, for better players can form a pretty good idea of who is online when by monitoring prestige gain and the resources in the NPCs surrounding a player, mails and whispers. But if getting attacked while offline consistently happens to multiple players, a spy is a far more likely culprit.

That being said...spies are vital. Spies spying on spies only adds to the enjoyment of the game. Until a time comes when the rules regarding multi-accounting are not blatantly ignored by everyone...having a spy account is a smart and practical tactic.

It's called COUNTER INTELLIGENCE: use it, live it, learn it...it's been the downfall of many alliances against me, just let in a spy and feed false information...fake group mails, fake attacks, and such...don't QQ about having spies, if your army is big enough and you have enough skill they don't matter

Please READ my posts carefully be4 you try to flame/insult me. Only YOU can prevent redundance
