I find this to be the best system.

ive never had to worry about spies in my alliance, we have never gotten big enough, though for some reason top 20 alliances tend to declare war on us. the only one that ever posed an issue was horde,(congratulations alusair)ranked 10 last i checked , but we suspected some new members of dogsowar and renegade, 2 high alliances on the server, of being spies and dealt with it dawnseekers way. in fact i was wondering if a player named decipher was a spy for horde (if you know alusair id appreciate knowing, and considering we took the route of shinobi i dont think it'd hurt horde), but if he was he didnt do any damage either.

Spying is a valid tactic. I use it myself. And when I was in Dawnseeker's alliance, I found the best way to keep myself above suspicion was to randomly accuse others of being spies and then help attack all their cities simultaneously.
