No, there isn't. At all. The only thing that could even remotely resemble proof is that nobody has been able to find a Mayan calendar that goes later than what archaeologists think compares to our year of 2012.

So basically, everybody thinks that the world will end because a civilization that obviously failed to predict their own demise didn't want to make calendars for a date centuries in the future.

It's akin to people thinking that armageddon will happen in 2020 because no calendar maker has begun publishing calendars for that year.

Nasa also predicts severe solar storms and sun spots for 2012, stong enough to knock out all communications satellites and even power grids....
