It was a conflict where Luke had to fight Darth Vader eventually resulting in Darth Vader's death. The fight with Luke could be interpreted as the cause of death, thereby meaning Luke killed him.

They aren't particularly long... in fact, about the same length as an average movie. Something like Titanic or the Godfather, I could understand, but SW?

probably because it seems like longer when watching it. last time i tried to watch a SW movie i got bored and went to go do something else
