It depends on what units are at the valley and it depends on what your techs on... There's never a fixed variable that can be used for everyone.
You can do it with out loses on server 69. if you scout first and attack only valleys that do not have cav and/or archers in them. You 3 screen shots are all from valleys with cav in them. That is why you take loses.

Unless someone attacks and takes a valley and abandon it again before my troops get there I have not taken loses since I started.
