thoughts about our forum
I shall begin with a thank you to the moderators for their collective efforts.
an internet forum is a curious thing, a nexus of people's ideas where unexpected things can happen.
for an online game, a forum adds an extra dimension beyond just interacting with a games' programming.
for a moment imagine Evony without a forum.
that is all the majority of people who play the game will experience.
those that find their way here, register, and post are looking for more. they want to share ideas with each other, record their thoughts for posterity.
the first few weeks of this game have been a lot of fun, and they have also been frustrating. there has been discovery and confusion. we have all seen complaints when people are unhappy. this is normal, just like questions when people seek answers.
it is one of the functions of an online forum.
(here is a LINK to the wikipedia entry for internet forum. good way to kill a few minutes waiting for a build or march.)
I read that article because I was bothered by the closure of threads. I don't dispute a moderator's authority to close a thread.
this is a difficult place to maintain order. trolls, and flames, and obscenity can overrun a forum and ruin it for the majority of users.
but, inoffensive or unproductive topics can be allowed to die a natural death. a quick trip to the last pages of any given forum will uncover posts that became outdated, or unpopular. most are still open, yet people eventually stop posting and they just fade away.
so my point, I guess, is to let topics die. rather than continuing to post, when a topic degenerates into an argument, let it die. rather than continuing to answer a question after it has already been answered or links provided, let it die. rather than close a topic that has not broken the rules, let it die.

words are funny things
they can explain, or confuse
please use them wisely
