Some internet providers have asked for a tiered system, in which bandwidth-heavy data such as videos travel slower. These providers include but not limited to Google, Ebay, Skype, Facebook, Amazon and Sony Electronics. There are reasons why they would need this.
The FCC (Federal Communications Commission ) is opposed to this and wants to preserve an open internet in which all data is treated equally. Sounds fair but some internet providers and telecommunications companies say that a tiered system is going to be the only way to keep internet traffic running smoothly in the future. This is a point I agree with. Mainly because I live in a small town named Barnsley in England where they will soon be running a trial based on this using Cat 6. It will be the first town in Europe to do this. I may change my mind after this trial though!
