Also, I know that a lot of the members I recruit this way are non trustworthy, however, recruiting them expands my alliance's borders, which allows me access to better players. And yes, I only invite people either within the borders of my alliance, or just at it.
I viel my threats in the beginning, telling them "we're very close to the ___ of you. We have very specific strategic goals for "location", and we feel you would be an asset to the team." If they don't get the threat there, then obviously I need to be more direct.
Defeated enemies can make great soldiers. Also, I believe it was Sun-Tzu who said to make enemies with those who are close to you, and friends with those who are far away.
