Skype or IRC

You guys decide. Do research on both forms of chat, then make your vote. The current OT Chatroom is on Skype, but DeSalvionjr wants to move it to an IRC chat hosted by evonyradio.com.

The Skype chat has me as its admin, and I can kick spammers/flamers out with the click of a button. I can also appoint admins, and silence users. The Skype chat is invite only, for members of the OTC.

Anybody can join an IRC chat. IP bans can be worked around. If anybody can join the IRC, then it's a good idea to have at least one admin on at any given time. I doubt that is possible, seeing as how most of OTC members live in either North America or Europe. Also, look up the potential dangers of IRC chats.

Skype also requires download, creating an account etc etc.
Not everyone can join a skype conference chat.

IRC is alot more secured than your making it seem. IRC Chatrooms can be accessed by anyone through an IRC client, or simply from the website. IP Bans can be worked around, it is a bit troublesome to do and usually not worth people's time to do, specially for such a small group.

The IRC network it would be connecting to has 4 expierenced administrators who monitor every aspect of the network overlapping eachother to provide full coverage. It is heavily secured to prevent DDOS attacks, flooders, spammers and other maliscious users.
Skype is highly unstable compared to IRC wich has been around for decades. You may be able to click and remove that one user, assuming you are online at that time of course.

I naturally vote IRC because it is easier to access, more user friendly and way more secure

actually, you can have private irc chatrooms...
you can also kick or ban people in irc very easily too!

I like Skype more but IRC has its advantage in that a download is not necessary.

IRC is hard on some computers. I regularly multi-task in a serious way, and never have a problem with skype. However, IRC crashes my computer after a while running. My computer is less than a year old with high RAM and a dual-core, so I can only imagine how it would mess up some other older ones.

Also, skype can be set for alerts and it runs separately from the browser. If it crashes, my work isn't affected. If my browser crashes, I keep my chat. I can set it to chirp at me with new messages, or flash, or only react when someone says my name. Messages wait for me to read them if I'm busy. Messages left for me when I'm offline appear when I get back online. IRC does none of that.
