    Default Study and Tests

Ok so I'm doing exams at the moment, and I'm betting some others are doing them as well. So I'm asking everyone how they revise or study. What techniques or way's do you study? or in some cases how did you study when you were at school?

Just wanna see what types of studyin' will help me. this thread can also be used to ask other study related post so ummmm yeah.

I've a semi-photographic memory, so sadly I'm not much of a study buddy. I read once and i retain it for years to come.

Studies have shown that if you listen to Mozart while studying it will increase your ability to absorb and retain the information for up to 10 mins at a time during your study session. The reason for this is his music comes closest to mimicking natural brain waive patterns.

it's been shown to work with college age students also.

I assure you 100% certainty not a jot of music will improve ones cognitive function prior to study as a college age student.

Noo-Tropics are the way of the future one singular study on Oxiracetam on pubmed, kinda blew me away - a single dose shows improved retention and recall up to 4 months afterwards.

    In the absense of Nootropics:

Water - HYDRATE - cannot study if your body is seeking something

Eat PROPERLY - Again you body needs X amt of Protein/ Fat to function a day if your hungry you are not going to study properly.

Omega 3's, Blueberries, Raisins all provide a boost to memory and retention, and have a WAY better scientific base than Mozart.

Don't study for too long- 20 minutes then get up walk around, your brain needs TIME to intake said information you cannot endlessly supply it with info and expect retention.

Break down the huge chapters into bullet points, learning of reams of pages is a no go, short to the point information is absorbed more readily.

    That will do for now

Well I've never really studied for tests, so I don't have advice on that.
But I can tell you something I did that improved my grades by more than a letter across the board.

I used to hang out in the back of the classroom and try to take notes. I would sit somewhere on the edge of class in the middle if the "cool kids" took the back row. I was a horrid note-taker. I tried to write everything that was said and it made little sense when I looked at the notes once I was home.

One day I was in a psych 101 class. In the middle of the teachers lecture I stood up and walked to the front center of the class. I put away my notebook.

From that day on I sat front and center and just listened.

Not distracting myself with note taking allowed me to hear and understand a lot more of what the teacher was saying. The only thing I would ever jot down is a formula we needed to know (if it wasn't already in the book).

My grades went up in every category after that.

    9 hours a day? a week?

    The brain needs downtime.
You need to go out and hang with your friends. You need to go see a movie. You need to get some exercise even if it's just tossing a football around with some friends.
