    Because the holy roman empire couldn't conquer the northern pagans in battle. So they moved some holidays and created some new ones in order to manipulate the pagans into thinking their faiths were similar.
    So suddenly there was a "christian" holidays on Samhain, Yule, Beltaine, and many more.
