This is why I say a same-IP resource block would work best. It's not optimum, but given the other issues involved, it's the least destructive solution.
A same-IP block would be more restrictive than a same-computer block. That is the reason we chose to do it this way. We want to use the least restrictive method possible to limit users to one account per person.

No....I don't mean blocking people on the same IP. I mean, making it so accounts on the same IP can't share resources. A Same IP Resource/Interaction block. This effectively cuts out a lot of the attraction and ease of multi-accounting, while still allowing shared-computer households the ability to play.

    Sorry for the confusion.

I dont think you quite understand.

If multiple people are playing from the same computer, they are also playing from the same IP. However, people playing from the same IP are not necessarily playing from the same computer.

Therefore, if we did what you are suggesting, it would prevent families from sharing resources and troops. The way we plan to do it, they can still share resources and troops as long as they have their own computers.

And there are a lot of players here who only have one comp...as many have posted.

Another thing: whats to stop me from using my fiance's laptop now to create a second account, and "feed" my main, since there won't be any resource blocking?

Neither option is going to make some happy, but the one that punishes one-computer households is by far worse than simply disallowing same-IP resource sharing.

not sure why you would post a reason for more restriction while advocating the opposite.

I offer the 'time sink' of having to maintain an additional account as a possible deterrent. not a complete answer, but, meh.

I too am interested in the fate of "2 players, one computer". luckily I am not in that boat, nevertheless I am curious about the policy.

Yeah....not gonna do it, since for me, gaming is about the challenge of the game, not "winning for the sake of winning"...

I'm just trying to point out that there have been numerous "one computer households" who have voiced their concerns, and it seems they are now being told they are "SOL, go find another game" because they aren't rich enough to own a second computer.

There is more room for cheating and shadiness in allowing for same-IP transferring....trust me, I have to deal with the results every day, elsewhere.

Our goal is not to make it impossible for people to cheat, because that would make it impossible for anyone to play the game at all. What we want to do is make rules which discourage cheating and make it difficult, while having the smallest impact possible on the honest gamer, who just wants to log in and have some fun. Its a balancing act.

The suggestion that resources and troops should not be shared among accounts with the same IP would indeed make it more difficult for a single player to use multiple accounts, but it would also make it more difficult for families and friends to play together.

In this situation, we want to use a less restrictive method.

Forgive me for being blunt for a moment, but basically, what this tells the One Computer Households is this:

"If you are too poor to buy a second computer, then you are too poor to be considered worthwhile to our game; Therefore, we are simply going to now make you choose one player among your family who can stay, and the rest are SOL. Sorry, but...at least with only one player, maybe now you can afford to buy our stuff."

Families and friends can still play together if they have more than one comp...they just can't send each other stuff from the same network now...and several people in this very situation have already said they'd prefer that situation over not being able to play at all...but what this does is literally shuts out players who may have worked hard on their accounts, but have the "bad luck" of being too poor to be able to buy another computer...and now only ONE family member can stay.

How is that the fairer option here?

I dont think you understand the rule change.

Multiple people can still play the game from the same computer, they simply cant send resources or troops to each other. No one at all will be prevented from playing by this change.

Ahh....well, that clears things up greatly. Somehow, the way it had been presented, it appeared that Evony was going to shut out all but one same-computer account per server.

I think this will come as a huge relief to those players who find themselves in this situation, and have been perhaps drawing straws or setting up the WWE/RAW cage in their living rooms for a "Who gets to keep their Evony Account" showdown.

While not perfect, not being able to share stuff is a lot better than not being able to play at all...
