They didn't all get banned (if you'd have taken the time to check), some of them just left the forums.

Anyone who was hacked was banned so the nefarious activity on their account would stop. This was a mod and users alike. It was a temporary ban and nothing that they did was held against them during that time as it was obvious and disturbing what they were doing, and followed the exact same patterns as all the other hacked accounts. The users affected either created new accounts to talk to us and ask what happened with their passwords and accounts (they all KNEW they had been hacked at that point). And we disabled the accounts and reset the passwords to their emails so they could gain back control. A lot of the phishing links looked legitimate which is why so many people were affected. They HAD to start swinging the ban hammer to protect the people and their personal information such as private messages, reputation, etc. Hope that clears it up a little!
