The Quintaglio Ascension trilogy by Robert J Sawyer
    1: Far-Seer
    2: Fossil Hunter
    3: Foreigner

The single greatest sci-fi/fantasy book(s) I have EVER read!
It is probably the greatest job of world creation since Tolkien.
Definitely a must read for any fiction fan. I highly recommend them.

I love anything by Tolkein, also the Inheritance cycle and the Bartimaus trilogy by Johnathan Strauss. Artemis fowl was... ok. Harry Potter was really good for being a kids story. Tom Clancey was one of my favorite authors of all time.

I've found a few of his books lately and I've been re-reading them...can't remember what happened in most of them, lol.

Favourite series, Malazan Book of the Fallen, by Steven Erikson. By far...

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is finally coming to a conclusion, albeit the last book (aka the last 3 books as the manuscript of the last book is too big for one book) written (co-written) by another writer...

Brent Weeks' Nightangel Trilogy was good, a nice surprise.

Best book of the last 10 years (not fitting in any series already mentioned) The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss. Anxiously waiting for the second one of that.

Worst series, ever, in my eyes, The Eragon books, first was allright-ish, after that it was just horrific to read. I can't believe anyone over the age of 6 would read anything like that.

I've also read the Inheritance Cycle and the Mortal Instruments Trilogy. But, sadly, you are correct. You're the second person I've met thats read the Heir Trilogy.

Only read two of Tom Clancey's books, but they were superb reads.

I'm also big on W.E.B. Griffin. I really liked his Brotherhood of War series.

Steve Alten's Meg series wasn't that bad either, but I only read the first two books. Eventually I'll re-read the ones I have and decide if I want to get the new ones.
