If we all reacted the same way, we'd be predictable, and there's always more than one way to view a situation. What's true for the group is also true for the individual. It's simple: overspecialize, and you breed in weakness. It's slow death.

I liked both Wheel of Time and Sword of Truth, but the heroes of both were pretty hard to relate with. My favorite book series would probably be The Dresden Files, by Butcher. Good plots, kick-ass protagonist who nevertheless has enough flaws and whatnot to seem human.
Also, most anything by Salvatore. Although Drizzt is getting a little old at this point. He's gone through like, 20+ books by now. Poor drow must be getting tired.

I actually like the heroes in Wheel of Time better than the ones in Sword of Truth, mainly because they are much more fleshed out and faulty than in SoT but the first book and 6th book in SoT pretty much to me make the series my favorite.

    thanks Ashley39 for the sig!

Idk. Anytime the heroes get too powerful, further character development (or plot development) is hard. Rand can take up an angreal, stretch out his hand, and obliterate most if not all of his enemies. It's why in Heroes (another of my favorites), they took away Peter's and Hiro's powers. It just got to the point where you're thinking, "Hey, why doesn't Peter just use xxx power or Hiro warp time and space in xxx way, and eliminate all opposition?".

Wheel of Time is notorious for getting into politics and a bajillion minor characters that no one cares about. If you ever decide to read the series again (and you should, since the 12th and final book is coming out soon, although it's not completely written by RJ since he decided to die, the ******* and I know I'm being insensitive but w/e), skip books 9 and 10 and just read a synopsis. Very little happens in those two books that can't be covered with a quick summary.

The 12th book of Wheel of Time is published and available in the UK, but unfortunately it's not the last book. The legacy of Robert Jordan's final installment of the series was thus big that they are cutting it in three books. In other words, book 12, 13 & 14 are the 'last book'.

Really? Huh, guess I'm not up to date. I do however, recall a statement by RJ that (and I'm paraphrasing) "The 12th book of WoT will be the final book. If it has to be 2000 pages long, then so be it." I recall thinking at the time 'It's going to take a lot more than 2000 pages to wrap up all your unfinished plot lines...'.
Guess I have to go reread the series now. Barely remember anything other than the highlights.

I'm collecting the series more than reading it, the last couple of books didn't exactly keep me interested until the end. Extra problem is that I am collecting the books in Dutch (but live in England now), so when the book comes out here I have to wait another 6 to 12 months before it will be published in NL.

Of course RJ said the 12th would be the final as he knew he was dying, he wanted to finish it before that.
