Wheel of Time is notorious for getting into politics and a bajillion minor characters that no one cares about. If you ever decide to read the series again (and you should, since the 12th and final book is coming out soon, although it's not completely written by RJ since he decided to die, the ******* and I know I'm being insensitive but w/e), skip books 9 and 10 and just read a synopsis. Very little happens in those two books that can't be covered with a quick summary.
The 12th book of Wheel of Time is published and available in the UK, but unfortunately it's not the last book. The legacy of Robert Jordan's final installment of the series was thus big that they are cutting it in three books. In other words, book 12, 13 & 14 are the 'last book'.
