Religion. Wha?

I'm going to say it straight. I'm a complete, 101% atheist. If you really really hate and/or dispise me and fellow atheists, please don't read this thead. It may burn, blow up, stab, rip up, curse at, and make fun of your eyes.

So, I was watching tv one day, and a religious comercial came up. It was taking about satan, god, saviors, blah blah blah...and so on. And then, a thought popped up into my head. *light bulb* Ding! I wondered why there was religion in the first place? whos the idiot 4000 or so years ago who said, "Hey! I think theres a white guy with a beard in the sky who decides what to do with humans like a kid with a magnifying glass on an ant hill! Lets worship him!". Really, why even care? Your born, you grow up, get a partner( and i'm not saying the word "married" because thats also from religion), make babies, get even older, and die. Theres absolutely no need to put santa clause or the easter bunny in there.

Please tell me why mankind has made religion. Even your opinion.

The need for control (through fear) and responsibility brought about the invention of religion, imo. However, as you get older you realize... there's no point in even discussing this topic. You can't change people's opinions. Religious peeps remain religious, and without an epiphany, atheists remain atheists. Why waste your time discussing it?

In my opinion, religion was created so that people would calm down before they die. They like to know there's someplace they'll go after death.

Plus it provided a quick answer to hyper-philosophical questions like "Why does the world exist?".
