You also get rep for your excellent writing style, if you had usage (of whatever variety) mistakes I missed them on first read, your patience to write lengthy passages, and your even tempered replies to very insulting people.

My critical piece of commentary will be to suggest that one quest should be put off for as long as possible. Newbies should not build a second city. I have more than a few players in my alliance who have lost their better city because they had two. Better to have mastered your one excellent city when you start/capture your second then be master of one so-so city left to you by your tormentors.

To the person who said you can solve all your problems by joining the #1 alliance on the server: what happens when it is full?
excellent points, especially the bolded part. Everybody has to start out new sometime, and this game can be intimidating enough without insults from the players that already know enough to write books about it. And the best players are the ones who are willing to listen to good advice and try to learn quickly. It just goes to show why getting into a good alliance is so important.

I did actually start my 2nd city about 14 hours in, so it was never far behind my first. But I realized pretty early on that even 3 days in would be way too late to start a 2nd city. I found it extremely helpful especially with getting the research done to increase resource production and other techs. And although I was always building, always researching in both cities, I was able to put off some things in each city until after I was out of BP, like building a lvl 9 barracks -- for a long time I only had 1 in 1 city.

Having said all that, I am still way too new to write my own guide -- I'm still finding ways to tweak things better. So even a guide with errors or incorrect information is still helpful, if only to read the feedback from other players. And there was some helpful information in the original post. So thanks for trying ThorianB.

Nice Guide. Now recruit some actual new players and tell them to read this. True someone who has been playing for like a year find this guide stupid but you really think from the point of a new player (some of which look for the alliance only when they need to complete the quest. New players struggle with resources so what Juranis added makes the original guide even better.

    +rep for both.

I would suggest you always build only sawmills, except for what is required for quests. Lumber is the most expensive resource, and so others can be bought.

EDIT: and this guide isn't all that great... u shud be aiming to get ur first lvl 9 barracks and getting ballistas while getting ATs so when ur outta bp u can start farming lvl 1-5 npcs..
and ur most likely not gonna attacked in the beginning of the server when everyone comes outta BP so it'd be better to go ALL sawmills and keep selling lumber and hoarding gold so then once lumber price drops u can buy all ur resources and upgrade to lvl 10 arc and lvl 9 hbr ASAP for NPC farming

i know my city i have 16 barracks and my second city only has a rally spot town hall workshop forge acadamey and resource feilds the rest is barracks sept for 7 lvl 10 cottages

Ironmines are always good to keep in your city at the beginning.

They are nearly as expensive as lumber, and a few ironmines really takes a new player far.

If you start an account with no farms, only one quarry and only one ironmine you are pretty much toast.

Balance first, in favor of splitting up mines and mills, and only demo the farms/quarries when you start farming NPC cities.

If you already have a city, and all the techs and equipment, go only for what costs more. However, if you don't have the army or techs, it is highly recommended that you keep your stuff in place.

Yes, sawmills are great, keep more. But balance it out a little, that way you can grow your army without having to lose every last one of your troops trying to get it.

    Default Mayor

Beginner's Advice Selecting Your Town's Mayor

    Appoint a MAYOR ASAP.

Be on the alert to upgrade your MAYOR whenever possible from your INN.

Please note, the Hero's visiting your INN are refreshed continuously by the Server. So take em while the taking is possible.

The best MAYOR should have the highest POLITICS value.

How do rate a MAYOR and whom should you recruit? General Rule: you want POLITICS - 60 - LEVEL = 0 or greater. A lower LEVEL is actually better for you to start with because you can increase your MAYOR's POLITICS faster, which is a good thing! A low starting LEVEL also saves you recruitment fee and salary. (The mayor does not work free unfortunately. Fortunately, they work 24HRS a day nonstop!)

During game play, always check in on your MAYOR and upgrade their POLITICS every chance.

Why do you want the highest POLITICS for your MAYOR?

Click on your TH - click on Production - Scroll down and look at Hero Plus. Note how much your MAYOR tirelessly contributes to your production 24HRS/D 7D/W 365D/YR!!!!!!!

Here is my Hero Plus production before and after [F, L, S, I]

    before 1558, 5472, 798, 4066
    after 2378, 8352, 1218, 6206

PLEASE NOTE: EVEN THE SLIGHTEST INCREASE IN YOUR POLITICS MAKES AN exceptional BENEFIT FOR YOU

Why do that, when one sawmill is worth two ironmines at the start due to market prices, and worth about 5/6 food (maybe more, I don't remember) and worth about two quarries too. At this rate, 150k lumber production would get you approx 80k food, 40k iron and 70k stone with 79k lumber left over per hour with proper use of the market. 150k production worth of spaces becomes 269k. More bang for your buck, so to speak.

Those numbers are just approximations, but you get my point.

If I remember correctly, iron is really cheap at the beginning of new servers.

    Default Building Faster

    Beginner's Guide To Build Faster

Appointing a MAYOR with high POLITICS has the benefit of reducing your build times.

Once you settle in, serious consider upgrading your ConstructionTech 2 to 4 times. Each upgrade enhances construction speed for bldg & fortified units 10%

By the 2nd week of normal game play, the time to upgrade CottageLv5 is 7:52 and a SawmillLv6 takes 9:29 for example.

THIS IS HUGE DEAL considering in early game play you shall build and upgrade a few hundred times!

    Smile How True

Old hands SHOULD NOT WRITE NOOBIE GUIDES...

They have absolutely no idea, especially in new swervers.

In server 124, there is a total of .04 Gold difference between all resources, and everything except food has been the most expensive. All I can say is that I would be deep in trouble if I had built 30 sawmills and 20 barracks.

I thought it was an excellent guide and much better than a lot of others I have read. The only modification I would make is to build many more scouts (3000+) before bp wears out, to hopefully stop being scouted and attacked in the first place
