Tax Rate: 10%-50% depending upon how long I plan to be offline
Population: varies with tax rate (loyalty)
Net Income: also varies with tax rate
Tips: don't forget that loyalty will be further modified be grievance if you are being attacked.

    online
    Tax Rate: 100%
Population: depends upon offline tax rate and attacks against me. approx. 60,000
    Net Income: approx. 60,000/hour
Tips: micro-managing loyalty using comforting while online is good.

25%, all the time. Steady, predictable income, with steady loyalty.

If I need more cash I just wait for it, 90% of this game is just waiting around until you can do something anyway -- which may be a *feature* -- or I hit a convenient NPC city. Or sell something in the marketplace.

    Tax Rate: 25%
Population: Fluctuates due to the draft but on the avg. rising, around 15k
Income: Around 3k, with spikes when I knock over some barbarians
Tips: hit forests for lumber, sell it if you need cash

I keep mine at 20%. I have found myself lowering it to 19% to upgrade population but as soon as it becomes stable, I return it to 20%. I know of others who have raised it to 100% and forgot to change it back only to wake to find a negative population!

I'm curious how to tax 50k people and get 60k income...seems like 120% tax to me.

I'm not complaining about it (I don't live there), but I AM curious about how to do it.

    Default Formula I have Found

I don't know if this helps anyone, but here is a cool formula I have found.
    Loyalty Formula:
100 - percentage of tax rate = loyalty
    Example:
    100 - 21(%) (tax rate) = 89(%) (loyalty)
    Population Formula:
Loyalty X Max Population = Population
    Example:
    89(%) X 100 = 89

These formulas do not account for troops, attackers, plundering, any comforting, or any item use.
