Thread: Are those who don't pay to play limited?

Default Are those who don't pay to play limited?

I have a simple goal in playing this game. I will not purchase anything. I see purchasing as a "cheat" of sorts, and refuse to do so.

Will I be limited in accomplishments if I don't pay? How does one obtain things such as Michaelangelo's Script without buying them? Would you rather purchase the game to begin with, and have performance and strategy entirely tied to skill rather than money?

It would depend on what server you play on. If you play on anything newer than 60, your have a better chance at winning medals and michaelangelo scripts from the wheel than you do from attacking. However, you can get the scripts from npc city's level 5 or higher.

They "claim" you can progress all the way to end-game w/o paying for anything. I suppose technically they are correct.... although it'll probably take more years than are available in a typical human lifespan to win what you actually need to finish.

Well glad I stumbled on this thread, because I came into the Forum to vent about how System no longer stocks/drops NPC 10's with Michaelangelo Scripts. I really think it's a conspiracy to get us to spend money on them. They used to be relatively easy to get from a 10, say five or ten percent of the time. Now all you get as a prize is a stupid medal that is worthless except to bribe heros with, or just maybe a holy water or speaker. Both useless to me.

I think Evony has gotten too bloated and too greedy. I do spend money on stuff, and I wonder if some of these items are dropped so that the player gets hooked or dependent on having them.

You will not be limited. Some of our oldest and most successful players have never made a purchase.

I think personally tha te people that made evony have put alot into it and have paid for the website and for our immense enjoyment some of the members choose to get coins to help themselves and give back to the makers of evony. if they didnt evony prolly would downgrade alot because they wouldnt have any money to pay their staff and keep the site running without losing their money.

I can see that point. However, that's a separate discussion from whether buying status in the game is a good tactic--or if it's even an accomplishment.

It's not cheating to buy stuff, though I get your point. Buying stuff will help, you can still play and have fun, just not spending money will take longer and generally put you at a competitive disadvantage.

It's not a conspiracy, this is not 9/11 or Dealey Plaza. It's a fact. It is their business model. You either accept the circumstances or you find something else to play.

You neglect to mention that some of your oldest and most succesful players play on old servers which actually dropped medals and other useful items from valleys and NPC's. Is your day job in the US Senate?

    Yes, you are limited.

    No, you are not restricted.

You may not actually be limited by not purchasing coins, however you will be at a HUGE dis-advantage if you dont.
