    Hi,

Okay this is a two pronged comment:

    1) Erm... use try Excel, with scatter graphs. I've got 'em looking sweeeeet.

    2) Good job though... nice to see someone trying something other than evolliance, which is pretty dire imo. Get the basics down... which it looks like you've near done, then spruce the graphics up a little... and I'd be interested. 8/10

I'm sure the three of you already know this, but I thought I should point it out for the other readers who follow...

According to the Evony Terms of Service at

    http://www.evony.com/index.do?PageModule=Static&type=TandC

    Paragraph 2.1 states:

You agree that you will not, under any circumstances:
    1. use cheats, automation software (bots), hacks, mods or any other unauthorized third-party software, databases or scripts designed to modify the Evony experience;

As such, programs such as Excel (which use macros/scripts), NotePad, or other software which creates a 'database' would be (in my opinion) a violation of this Term of Service.

I'd hate to see you folks get banned for using "unauthorized third-party software" and all...

    Thanks for the suggestion

This mapping system is external website that completely did not change any in game system. This is same like evoalliance.com but more to personal use and no function such as bot or whatsoever. It's only green, red, or blue square with cood on the screen.

I have gone right off maps. The problems include:
    1. By the time you finish mapping a significant area, there will have been many changes.
    2. Alliance shared maps can and will end up in the hands of spies.
    3. Diplomatic status can and will change, rendering whole sections obsolete.

However, when the terms says: "designed to modify the Evony experience" it does not specify if it's in-game or outside-game experience. The wordings are vague, not specific enough. Of course it will modify the experience, for the BETTER. To me, cheating is getting an unfair advantage without investing the time and effort (like steroid in baseball). But if you put the effort yourself by manually entering the date and scouting the map by "click and drag" of a mouse pointer, then it's not cheating.

Using a notepad and a pen is using a database - a hand written database -. is that illegal too?
And yes, I use a BIC pen and CVS notepad (which is both 3rd party).

According to the wording of the Terms Of Service... IMO... yes.

Maintaining a manual list in your head is a violation as well (your brain is a carbon-based computer system.)

I raised this issue back when the notification was first made (early July). I never did get any clarification.

    To Quote Thalin Athasian:

"I would remind all users of the Terms of Use which you accept on using the www.evony.com website, forums and Game.

Users who desire to violate the Terms of Use and exploit Evony data, use third party API, etc to collect/collaborate/report that gives those users an unfair advantage (which is against the spirit of the game) may find that their Evony accounts banned.

Evony has not agreed nor approved any third party non-related site, software or program at this time. Use of such items will place your account in jeopardy of being banned and removed."

Now I have some issues with this, as it does not quite match the Terms of Use. The only section in terms of use that deals with this subject reads thus:

"use any unauthorized third-party software that intercepts, "mines", or otherwise
collects information from or through the Game or the Service, including without
limitation any software that reads areas used by the Game to store information
about a character or the game environment; provided, however, that EVONY TEAM
may, at its sole and absolute discretion, allow the use of certain third party
    user interfaces;"

I think the key words in the Terms of Use are "intercepts, mines" and "from or through the Game or Service".

There are some third party sites that do seek to collect information in ways that break these Terms of Use, but there also others that simply enable easier analysis of data collected by players for the use of those players and their alliance.

The second type of data collection (co-ordinates, how to guides) has always been a part of gaming and because this is an MMO, players will choose to share that data with members of certain groups (alliances, forums, chat rooms).

My question is this. What do the administrators consider "an unfair advantage", rather than smarter gameplay and better strategic planning ?

It seems that it is unclear what the administrators will or will not allow or what they will consider to be "against the spirit of the game".
I would never do anything that I would consider to be against the Terms of Use but with this statement by Thalin Athasian I now have to wonder if perhaps I am open to having my account banned ?

Is the opening of an alliance forum for the purpose of collecting and sharing usefull information with my members against the Terms of Use ?

Is writing down the co-ordinates of enemy towns on a piece of paper considered to be against the Terms of Use ?

Is the use of a simple mapping tool (or even spreadsheet) that requires the input of individuals or groups of individuals considered against the Terms of Use ?

It all boils down to interpretations of some of the key words by the administrators and how they wish to view certain actions and it is very unclear from Thalin Athasian's notice just where the line will be drawn.

I would like some clearer explanations from the administrators please.
