no need for millions of troops(just hit the calvary)
help your alliance people if they're losing loyalty to calvary
potentially easier upkeep
no need for walls or fortifications(without fortifications range drops, allowing melle to do better)
by keeping all your defenses outside the city, you kinda avoid the need for scouts
