Ok jaq, nice guide but a lot of errors regarding the mechanics of the game. Let me explain to you why the cavalry attack is possible.
When there are no traps or abatis available, the range of the attack is set to the "BASE" range of the longest range unit + 200. Accordingly, the range of the fight will be :
Archers : 1200 + 200 = 1400.
Ballista : 1400 + 200 = 1600
Catapult : 1500+200 = 1700.
Mind you, the cavalry has a max speed of 1500, and a range of 100, so up to the 1600 range ur attack is possible. Why? because cavalry always prioritize the target with the most value, which is usualy archers because a lot of them are available.
So why does your attack skip enemy layers? why does the cavalry ignore any swordmen or pikes that are there and go for the archers?
Its because the rules of the fight state that the unit with the highest attack speed will move first, which is in most cases ur cavalry, moving straight up to point zero and engaging the archers.
Now there are two situations your attack is not possible.
1) if there are catapults in the defence side.
2) if there are cavalry with hbr 10 in the defence side.
Now if u think i am wrong, then by all means prove me wrong, show us a report where ur cavalry can reach the archers in one round with catapults in the defending team.
I wouldn't consider incorporating archery and wall bonus an "error." Try your numbers again with the bonuses applied. The example I used assumed max arch and walls. I'm well aware of the various range theories. I have my own and it explains phenomenon and general mechanics just fine. It's insulting for you to assume that because I have my own theory, I've never reviewed or considered any other. I'm posting my understanding of the game so people can use/critique/modify it to suit their needs. I'm not posting guides as a result of some adversarial intention.
You might want to read the guide more thoroughly next time as well.

Actually i believe that cavalry's true range isnt exactly 100 units, or that there is some other mechanic that makes them target the melee units first. From what your saying cavalry in a lvl 10 valley would still be able to hit the 90k archers sitting behind my 5k ballista, and yet they do not; they instead attack the lone pikeman i sent with them and die horribly.
Of course it could maybe also indicate that the range bonus that starts the battle is greater then 200 units. I can't say.

nice...thanks for your post man..it help us some..
thanks anyways..
I gotta admit, I had a nose bleed..
On 59 it's pretty much every hit. Go to the 59 section of the forums and ask for yourself. On 100 it's probably a low drop rate but i have got a mich script and a holy water.
On 59 Justice and Nation can be obtained from a level 10. This is how people medal farm to 10 cities. On 100 not found a single medal in an npc.
People tend to forget that every server is different. What might work on one server, will probably be an epic fail on another.
What is the source of your information?
I was under the impression that evony hadn't released ANY game mechanic information.. so i'm stumped as to how you have a 3 variable equation system based on just your personal attacks on players.
I play 106 - the drops are non-existant until you get to 7+ valleys, i farm 9 grass and swamp regularly with about a 15% droprate after 400 or so attacks.
I haven't done the level 10 npcs here yet, will be starting those today as my archery hits 10 in a couple hours but i'm fairly certain medal drops will be good off of them.
