Let me tell you a short story about a young boy I know, name Dilan, who lives in a village in Sri Lanka.
Dillan is 9 years old and walks to school, which takes 45 minutes.
He lives with his mother, father and older brother in a small house. They have no running water so when dilan is at home he helps out by getting water from a community well about 1 mile away or in the dry season from a river, slightly further away. They use a fire for cooking so dilan will help his mother gather firewood every day.
Dilan's father is a farmer but his income is very low so they have very few luxuries.
The community they live in has a communal television so it is a social event for families to gather in the evenings to watch tv.
There are no computers in Dilan's village or his school. Dilan and his family are lucky to enjoy good health, although the water they drink is untreated and their house is in poor condition. (there is little money for needed repairs)
Dilan and his friends enjoy simple games like dodge-ball in the little spare time they have, once they have finished their daily chores. Dilan hopes to be a teacher one day.
This is a true story of a young man who considers himself to be very lucky and enjoys his life very much. I tell it simply to try to help you see your problems from a different perspective.
you know what's kind of funny how a kid could grow up with no money whatsoever and still be so happy,yet someone who has all the money and luxuries still isnt happy..it deffinately makes me things different rodri..
