But that thread was mindless debating...for example:
Fred: Pie is the best!
Bob: No. Cake is! You suck pie.
Fred: Nu-huh! Pie rocks! You are a ****. Pie rules.
Bob: NO!!!!!!!!!!
Kenny: Chuck Norris is better than both of you!
Fred & Bob: NO!!!!!
And the debate thread had a logical debate other than which one do you prefer.
Not at all on topic. If you can think of a good debate topic, PM me it and we can open up a moderated thread in it.
Look for Heights in the RPG and story section
Some of those "games" have been around forever so I guess members don't mind them so much. I didn't think I would like "101 Ways to Die" at first, but it isn't that bad. Most of the posts are fairly spammy in it but I put some effort into mine and some are fairly funny I think. Some of the other threads you list I just avoid because they are not to my taste.
Serious subjects don't seem to last very long, even if the debate remains civil and the posts are well thought out. Eventually they just start to drift away. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't make posts on serious subjects. I enjoy being mentally challenged as much as anyone. It's just the nature of the beast that those subjects will fade away.
Unfortunately the members who used to like making and posting in those serious sort of threads seem to have faded away as well. Some of the longer term OT members that are left are very spammy in their posts and yet they can get away with it without comment.
This is what confuses the new people, I think. When they read a few threads and see the spam, they think it must be ok. Next thing you know, the whole "community" is chasing them out of town with pitchforks and torches.
I still think it's just a matter of ignoring what you don't like, unless it is really offensive, and post where you think it is worthwhile.
PEACE
I'm not saying don't have them. I pop in and make a comment from time to time. They're fun. I would just like to see a few of them die off. We don't need an entire first page of "nothing post" spam threads.
You're totally right. Threads of actual discourse never last long.
I know. But I'm trying to indicate that this is what other members of this community do as well. Maybe different from how I do it, but still quite similar.
I'm defending our actions as a community. We welcome new people with open arms. Some simply irritate us to the point of degrading the community to a level where others can't enjoy it.
I'm slightly the odd one out because of the hours I do attend the OT. I'm not, or hardly, around when most are, for the simple fact that I have a life outside of here as well.
But I do have to say that the 'community' isn't as close as it was and I'm not sure if it ever will. We've had this same discussion a few months ago. Wether or not the reasons are good, I'm not going to say anything about it, quite a few of the old OT people that are now permabanned are truely missed.
I'm still around, but much more lurking as I was before.
*sigh* Everyone seems to lurk. I mean there could be 10 OT members online at a time and yet it would take 5 minutes before anybody posted something.
Imma basically new so I like to play the lurker aswell, But it gets annoying when nothing happens and you have to instigate something lol
