Wow, way too open of a question dude. You need to be a lot more specific.
A cruise missle or ICBM is a weapon, but I imagine that is safe to assume your talking about small arms. Even then, the best weapon depends on the situation:
What's the range?
What's the enviornment?
Indoors or outdoors?
Are you on your own or part of a team?
Do you have access to supplies, ammo, air support, etc?
How much other gear do you need to carry?
Does the enemy have body armour?
Etc.

Inside of a medium sized building, I'd rather have a submachinegun than an assault rifle, becuase a rifle is too large and clunky to be eaisly handled in close quarters. If the enemy is expected to have body armour, I may consider a combat shotgun, mabye a SPAS-12 or an AA12. Otherwise any submachinegun will do, prefereably an MP5 or UMP5. P90's are ok (contrary to popular beleif) especially since their lightwieght.

Outdoors, at medium to long range I would want to have an assulat rifle. I'm not too picky about which one, but I would prefer a M-16 or something similar. SCARs are ok, but a bit too heavy.

AK-47's are (contrary to how they are portrayed in video games) are not the best weapons out there by an measure except one: reliability. In a sterile, laboratory environment, any decent assult rifle will out-perform a Kalaskinov in every catagory. But the real world is rarly such an enviornment, and when another rifle would fail an AK will keep working at 100% effeciency. Perfect example: in Iraq right now the insurgents are mostly using AKs that have been around since the 60's. But in the desert, those old, obsolete AK's are out-performing M16A3's and other 'modern' weapons that came off the line 3 months ago. One thing about Russian made weapons- they may not be the best but they are always built to last. (This only counts for REAL AK-47's, not those cheap Romanian knockoff ones.)
RPGs are the same way when compared to any other unguided rocket launcher.

Pistols: Desert Eagle's are over-rated. I'd want a Colt. 45 or a 92FS. Good, solid weapons with decent accuracy.

Miniguns, M-60's, SAW's and the like are popular in movies and video games, but they are too inaccurate for a main combat weapon. Their usefull as a squad support weapon, but if your on you own don't even consider it.
