im glad my post became so popular for you guys. im sorry i had to even out the ammount of generals to just these 6, because some of you prefer others but i was in a hurry

anyway, im suprised at some of the numbers. Obviously Patton is getting a lot of votes but only 1 vote for Grant and Meade? Grant's success on the battle field eventually lead to his nickname "Unconditional Surrender" Grant. And General Meade was the first person to ever defeat Lee when they faced off at the Battle of Gettysburg.

im not saying these 2 are better, just meant that the ammount of votes they had is lower then i expected.

Now on to one of the posts that said that George Washington lost more then he won. well let me bring that into some prospective. He took command of literaly one of the worst armies in U.S history (probably the worst) the continental army was very undisiplened, under fed, under clothed, and many where being struck with illness. not only that, George washington did not have the kind of army to fight the style of warfare he prefered, which was European linier warfare. instead, he had to rely on Gurilla tactics, which was a style which he almost hated because of its constant retreats. and due to some embarrising losses lowering the moral of a depleated, out numbered, out classed, out disiplened continental army, toped by the fact that the constant retreats that came along with the gurilla style war he was forced to fight, only made matters worse for Washington and the other Generals leading the Continental army. Yet with all those factors including help from french and other european countries, he was still able to coordinate and lead attacks againced the British which eventually led the the surrender of General Cornwallis in Yorktown 1781.

thanks again for making this a popular thread guys

I think a better thread could be wich is the best military: for example Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Otto von Bismark. You know, something more..global.
it would be a better idea...... but im not exactly an expert on global military leaders, just American military leaders
