I equate this to something I dislike here in the United States, which is "Hyphenated Americanism". I long for the day when we are simply "American", not "African-American", "Hispanic-American", "White-American" (or Caucasian-American), "Jewish-American", "Arab-American", etc, etc, etc... It is fine to remember one's heritage, but the longer we add words that divide us into distinct groups, the longer racism will be able to thrive and grow. People need to mingle with others, to educate others, to be examples of the good in all... When we shut ourselves in and only want to deal with what is comfortable, we deprive ourselves of meeting others who may be unexpected sources of kindness and compassion.
