Thread: Have you taken the h1n1 shot?

You are very correct, Brooke. That's why I do not like it when people say "oh I do not need the shot, I have a healthy immune system and I'm going to always be safe." Those people saying that are not using their common sense and are just relying on something that does not always work successful.

Compare that to the normal flu, which kills far, far more than that per year.

The Flu normally kills people with weaker immune systems, or people either already sick, very young or old, or recovering from a serious illness or injury. It almost never kills healthy people by comparison, unlike illnesses such as smallpox and the new super drug resistant strain of TB (which costs about 100,000 to treat, and was brought about by medicine abuse).

But that is what makes the swine flu different, It is such a new virus that nobodys immune systems were use to it, The swine flu has infected/killed people of all immune system stabilitys.

Yes, but as I said most of those are weak, or just flukes. The Swine Flu in the United States has a mortality rate of 0.1%. That is almost ignorable from a statistical standpoint.

The swine flu vaccines should only be given to those who are at risk of serious injury or death resulting from the flu. In other words, young children, seniors, and those with preexisting conditions that could cause complications.

Well on a world scale there have been 10,00 deaths. Mostly among the young, old, or in developing countries. Compare that to the 40,000 deaths from the Influenza during the typical Flu season(again under the same conditions) and you start to see just how little of a problem Swine Flu really is in comparison. It is a media scare, similar to the Avian Flu which doesn't even transmit from person to person.

Doesn't matter, SwineFlu still kills a lot. It isn't a Flu you should ignore because it is deadly and has killed a lot of people.

Which is why I have been saying, give the vaccines to those most at risk of death, the elderly, the young, and those with preexisting conditions that would cause complications. I have the same stance with ordinary influenza vaccinations as well.

Also, an intersting piece of information,
Swine Flu has only actually infected 50 people over the past 100 years, and of those 7 died from it.

H1N1 is actually a mutated version of Swine Flu, but it is still called swine flu for simplicities sake.

    EDIT:
It is irresponsible to take a vaccine for something that your immune system can handle, when someone else needs the vaccination far more than you do. It also constitutes as abusing medications. The last thing we need is a super flu going around.

Well I suppose we have some ideas in common. I suppose it really wouldn't serve much of a purpose to carry this debate out any longer. It was fun, and I guess we both won some points, so it isn't a total loss for anyone. Its too bad all debates can't turn out that way!
