Necroing and Forum Games

Okay, i'm gonna take a shot at this because i'd like some opinions.

We ALL know that necroing is a "no no" and frankly, it's irritating to see 1000 year old posts floating back to the top. The question is, how long can a thread sit there before it is declared dead?

I think there should be some guidelines to this regarding game threads, at the very least. Forum games are very popular (allbeit spam-tastic) but can often get pushed from the first page to the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th within minutes if a group of people (usually minimal posters) come in and raid the OTD with 10 topics all requiring a lock. (this is just an worst-case example)

People end up forgetting about certain thread for a couple weeks, a month max, and then -ding- light bulb! They remember a game and wish to bring it back to the front and cover the old and locked spam.

So perhaps we should be a bit more specific about what should and shouldn't be touched after a certain period of time and what that period of time should be.

Personally, regarding the games, I think we should limit the necroing out to a 2 weeks - 1 month maximum.

So what do you think?

I say 3 weeks... maybe 2.... This really happens alot *cough*Wildor*Cough* and I really wish it would stop. The rate of new thread getting posted here is riseing really fast and is at probablly 5-7 new threads a day. We really need some clarification as to how long a game can sit before becoming toxic.

Alright, that's funny.

It is clearly stated in Off-Topic Guidelines, a sticky thread right at the top of this page, that two weeks is the general rule of thumb.

I dont mind some necros of games and subjects I enjoy and that others would enjoy. I just hate all the locked threads hogging the front page lol.

@ Wildor: I figured that, but sometimes rules like these need to depend on the rate at which new threads are being posted, like Devis had mentioned. I just think it'd be nice to discuss it, considering the repeat threads and the rate at which topics are being closed and similar threads are being created.

If it's not old and stale, why ditch it for a new one already?
