Nor me, that's why I haven't chimed in.

The OP is "confuzzling," to say the least.

the quary is: do we need to have more controle in our lives
the answers have been: we need to have more controle over our lives.

the answer does not match the quary.
i say NO we do not NEED more controle in our lives, we all need the freedom to make choices for our selfs. granted your right to choise to hit me ends at my flesh. THAT is why there is controle in our lives, because some ppl choise not to controle thier lives as well as the rest of us would like them too. unfortunatly when you hand controle of everything in your life over to someone esle, you loose your power to choise effectively and act swiftly. and THAT is why ppl fight to gain/ regain controle of thier lifes. such as the ppl mentioned in the OP.

    In a word... yes.

Although it depends on how you define control. By my definition, I'm am using control in a similar light as command, power over, etc.

The human brain is hardcoded to seek out power, because at the time of our evolution and throughout much of our history, power meant security, safety, and most importantly of all, survival.

While the times have changed, our brains haven't very much in comparison. We still have things such as a desire for control and aggression as a part of our very being, and that is the sole reason why communism will never work among humans, among many other things. We are an extremely imperfect race, there is no debating that fact.

Of course in time this may no longer be the case, a point one of my characters in Solar Empires [and by extension me] made with this quote:

Humanity is a savage race by nature. Our brains are designed to be receptive to vile influences, leading to excess and gluttony in many areas of our life, be it senseless greed for wealth, lusting for power [removed for censorship purposes]. Humanity is a young race, there is no denying the fact. And yet, through all this there is still hope, such desires can be suppressed, and in time removed. Evolution works towards our salvation, not towards our destruction! We merely need to prove to ourselves that we are unsuited for our goal and let evolution do the rest. The human mind and nature are powerful things, and not to be underestimated.

    -Franklin Guarnieri M.S.
So, yes we need Control as we currently stand, and that is a direct result of both our natural aggression and insecurity. That is my humble opinion on the matter.

    i beg to differ
too much controle is just as bad as none at all. too much controle by out side partys and not of ones own self is more dangorus then anything man has yet come up with. to excersize such tight controle over another human being that it has no power to express its own will, will stifle and kill the essence of it. it will then become a mindless drone, just another ant in the hill doing the bidding of its master as placidly as a robot.
i am not advocating a compleet lack of social niceaties, or a chaotic state with no government of any kind, but nether do i belife that more controlle from outside forces will solve any of the worlds problems.
those who feel oppressed will always find their voices. i dont remember if it was a book, movie, or vidoe game where i heard this quote but it stuck in my head and buzzed in my brain untill i woke up and knew that it was right.
all dictators fear their subjects. because they know that one day one will rise up to depose them.
