Mmm, could you not double post Elana? That's why there's an EDIT button. Or you can wait for someone else to post after your post.
As for needing "Control" exactly... no, not in the way people are thinking about it. I'm sorry, but charity starts at home. I believe in helping other countries and giving them a push in the right direction if they ASK and certain groups are ABLE, but we can't always force people to do anything about someone else's starvation, disease problems, governmental standing, etc. Just as we can't force people to accept our help.
We have laws in several different forms.
You can teach a group of people to farm in droughts, by using irrigation systems from the nearby rivers, or other natural sources of water, even underground water. (There's very few places in the world that are completely free of water in some form)
But you can't force them to use that knowledge, just as you can't throw money or rice at the problem and call it fixed. You'd be leaving those people with no sense of independence, only a sense that others need to control them to solve their problems.
(NOTE: when I use the terms "you" and "we" I'm merely making a generalization. It's not directed at any one person or place)
I'll get off my soapbox now and leave you all with a quote:
"Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither. He [or she] who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security."
We're all capable of functioning in a world with little control (note I didn't say NO control), without going overboard. It's whether or not we choose to.

Anyways....what were we debating about control before? Im kinda lost now..
Do we need control?
The answer is yes, But not total control.
Meaning that the government should hold alot of power, But not enough to infringe on peoples rights as human beings, But have enough power to maintain a civil environment.
and your only helping the greed problem man! obviously there is no such thing as a real food shortage because if there is enough to feed the whole 75%+ overweight and obise people in the U.S then there is enough to feed the world, but i dont think your getting the point. there are people all over the world starving, and dieing because there is not enough food in that country, and any food there is needs to be either shared even though it is not a sufficiant ammount for even 1 person, or it has to be bought, which they can't do because they dont have a single (put whatever your country's lowest ammount of currency is)
just listen to what elena is trying to say, if people weren't so greedy (like you made the mistake of admitting) then the world would be happier, there would be significantly less crime, and a good chance that the wealth gap would decrease so everyone is better off to do things they want and governments can focus on other things such as medicine. obviously one person can make a difference in lives, but a problem like this needs the worlds help.
but elena i would like to point out, that america is not as rich as everyone (including you) like to point out. we still have our poor people and middle class people. there are still many crimes, there are still many deaths. there are still scandels in government positions. so yes many people look up to this country, but the fact that some people go as far as stereotyping america to the point that it makes us all seem like we are all rich spoiled people, is pretty sickening to the many many of us that arent anywhere like that. infact, the reason not as many of us give as much of our wealth is because of our wealth gap. some rich people are selfish, some try to give money and resorces to help environmental issues or problems with our own nation. and the middle and poor people.... just obviously don't have the money to give. middle do, but we need that money to provide as much for our own families as we can. and this world wide depression has hit america really hard too, so its even worse for every wealth class.
(incase the post didn't make it obvious enough yes i am american)
Yes what you say is what i was trying to say...and that was only my opinion not the truth...
So i really didnt factor america completely, maybe more south ways is what i was talking about.
But yes, evry country has their problems and poorage...(didnt know how to spell that)
And evry country has their crime...but some are more safer than others...
And im gonna point this out to you: name is Elana not Elena
Carlos, greed itself is not a bad thing. Nor will it ever disappear. You are simplifying many problems and lumping them together under one idea.
Elana wasn't trying to say anything in particular, and neither are you. We all recognize that somewhere someone is starving, but we don't know where they are...what their name is...nor how to go about helping them. Please don't harp on me for admitting that society has flaws.
