The Confederate States of America had heroes that gave their lives for the independence of their new nation.

Other than Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee, these heroes go nearly unrecognized.
Because the victor writes the history.

Half a moment to commend those people who died bravely.

Now. Can I have a cookie?

    Australia Day

Now I'm not normally much on flag waving and such but today is our national holiday and we love to celebrate it in true Australian style.

Later this morning there will be breakfast barbecues and ceremonies in just about every town. People will be sworn in as citizens and awards will be given to those who have contributed to their community in some form or other. But those are just the official celebrations. The real celebrations will start later in the morning, in backyards, parks and on beaches around the country.

There will be beer, lots of icy cold Aussie beer and some good Aussie wines.

Then there will be barbeques for lunch. It's almost obligatory.

Being Australia in the summer, there will be cricket, both at the highest level and just for fun.

The parties will stretch out through the day. Jokes and tall stories will be told and the emphasis is on fun.

People celebrate by doing the things they love to do and don't think too much about Australia or national pride or any of that. We fly the flag but just to say we love it here and then get on with having a good time.

In the evening there will be fireworks in most cities, for those who are still on their feet at that time and that just sparks another round of parties.

It's our big day of celebrations so happy Australia Day.
    PEACE

Rodri...it sounds like a wonderful day of celebration....curious...my parents had the option of either immigrating to Canada or Australia back in the 50's...obviously they didn't choose the latter-i still wonder why? but Australia is a place on my list of 'to-visit' once my husband retires. have a great day and loads of fun
