    Default World Chat ~~

I realize this topic is probably more suitable for the Harassment Forum, but if most people are like me, they only scroll down as far as General Discussion and never look any farther down the page.

Since there are no moderators in World Chat (which is a HUGE problem, given the offensive conversations that take place there on an hourly basis), this is a message to players...even though I also realize that those who are the problem will likely never bother to read these Forums in the first place.

LEAVE THE NEGATIVE FOUL LANGUAGE, INSULTS, RACIST COMMENTS, RELIGIOUS COMMENTS, POLITICAL COMMENTS, AND ANY OTHER NEGATIVITY OUT OF THE CHAT AREAS.

Most of us are here to play a game, and because it is new, we have to ask other players for assistance. Sure, maybe some questions are stupid -- to YOU -- but not to the person who is asking, because they haven't put in the two extra days' of gameplay that you have. The only stupid question is one that doesn't get asked. So don't call someone an idiot because they are asking for information or advice. If you're too good to provide a useful answer, then just shut up.

I am thankful that a person can use Alliance Chat even if they aren't in an alliance, because when the chat conversation turns ridiculous, I simply go there for a while until the offensive or harassing person runs out of Speakers.

Be that as it may, I also answer alot of questions from people asking for help, and if I'm in Alliance chat due to terroristic threats, religious insults, and political spamming, I can't answer anyone's questions.

NO ONE CARES if you're black, white, red, yellow, green...from Canada, America, Russia, Iraq, Ireland...Democratic, Republican, Independent, So******t...Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish...pro-choice, pro-life, kill-em-all. NO ONE CARES. And if someone does care, they need to deal with it themselves, not bring their own prejudices and hatred onto a chat area where 99% of the other people DON'T want to hear it.

Besides, many of the people that do start the flame wars in chat are making the statements they make for the SOLE PURPOSE of starting a flame war. Then they sit back, watch, and probably laugh at everyone else who gets incensed by their comments and starts an hour-long argument over whatever the intial comment was. They do it on purpose to get YOU riled up, and when you get irked, you give them power over your emotions. A total stranger, controlling how you feel? Not a good thing.

IGNORE the idiots. PLAY the game. Leave your childish bickering out of it.

    Please!

(Sorry for the rant, but since there's no way to turn chat off, unfortunately, and there are no chat moderators to instantly ban someone for vile language, threats, insults, or hostile comments, I felt the need to say something.)

I believe this is the correct forum, you're discussing something as well as reporting an issue.

    That being said...
I sincerely believe the overwhelming majority of insults and comments you see are from people under the age of 21. Now, don't consider me generalizing, as I'm 18, which places me in that category.

I know the comments are vulgar and certainly uncalled for, but there's only so much that can be done. The devs block the language...and suddenly people are using !,@,$ in their words in order to get the same point across.

The best you can do for now is block the offender and report them.

On an added note, I do hope they had moderators for chat soon. In many games I've played, it has done wonders to decrease said unneccessary violations.

EDIT: ACTUALLY, I apologize. I did not see your final comment in parenthesis. Yes, you can turn chat off. If you're not in an alliance (at least, not in a big one) simply change from world chat to alliance chat (third circular button from the bottom, left side of chat box) and world chat will disappear.

    Use the Search Function First
Anyone that asks for reputation gain is helping you for the WRONG reasons.

I would love to be able to disable the chat, but I like reading it because it does contain some good information/questions every once in a while! That, however, is only 1% of the time..

Anyways, good post Sarasca! I'm hoping that chat mods are implemented soon to help stop all this nonsense.

I take comfort in knowing their childish comments wont last long since they will run out of speakers at some point in the near future.

That being said, the Devs are currently looking to put some people in place to moderate the in game chat and game so I'm sure once that happens things will get better.

Is there any way to IGNORE a person by their name? That alone and a few hours of weeding out the worst offenders would solve the problem.

Chat filters in general would be wonderful (alliance whoring is a big annoyance) but without moderators it would be pointless

-Edit- Read some more on the forums, found the ignore command (rather its called block for whatever reason so i didn't find it right off)

Are we starting to see the use of speakers? But it would have been better if you could only talk after playing for at least 7 days or having a certain amount of prestige.

A free to speak (no speakers required) "Help" channel would be ideal. There are usually a couple of kind hearted souls who don't mind answering questions. I hope I get to that point...the documentation for this game is pretty much non-existant

People on the internet will always be ******s, it's a time honored truth.
