I decided to write this after a conversation I had with an alliance member yesterday. He was unaware that changing mayor's for different attributes had a positive effect on things like research, building, and training. Basically he started to research lvl 10 archery with a hero that had 30 intel, he's been at it for weeks.
First, follow the quest to get started, pretty soon you'll get the hang of things.
Buildings. Do not build warehouses. Waste of time and resources. As you grow, the meager resources that a warehouse holds will be nothing compared to what you need.
Market place. I have not built mine past lvl 2. No need.
Barracks, build alot. start slowly, at first you won't have the resources to continuously train troops, but ultimately you'll need 10+ barracks.
Cottages, same as barracks, you'll need a lot.
Beacon Tower, slowly lvl it up to max, this will tell you what is coming at you, and the higher the lvl the more detail.
Inn. No need to lvl it up too high, mine is at lvl 9, but if i had a second chance I wouldn't take it up over 4. I'll explain why under the Hero section.
All the other buildings build accordingly, workshop, stable, forge all have to do with research. Relief station, if you have multiple cities.
Walls. Take them all the way up. If you only have one Mich. Script, use it on these. Build Archer Towers, (at's) and Abatis only. 3:1 ratio of at's to abatis.
Heros: You can save yourself a lot of time, and gold even, following these tips. First, recruiting. As I said above, don't build your inn above lvl 4. You actually don't want to recruit a high lvl hero. You want to recruit a low lvl hero with one high attribute. Be patient, wait for one to show up, then snag him, or her. Why? Simple, if you take a lvl 10 hero, with an attack attribute of 70, you can much more quickly lvl him up to 80, than if you had a lvl 15 hero with 70 attack. Heros don't need to be well rounded.
Mayor. If you plan on building troops, make your highest attack hero the mayor, this will decrease training time. When starting a research, use your highest intel hero. Any other time, use your political hero, you get more production, and reduced time building.
Troops. Archers, tons of archer. #1 troop. Warriors and workers. Tons of them as well, they are cheap to build and make great lambs for slaughter. Use them to take out enemy traps and such.
Swordsmen and Pikeman. Build some, keep them in your city for defense, maybe send pikemen in large waves when attacking.
Balistas. Build alot, use alot. They are slow and eat alot of food, but they are valuable for npc farming so they make up for it. You can use balis to farm up to lvl 5 npcs without taking any losses. you can farm a lvl 3 npc with 175-200 balis depending on certain factors. Lvl 5 will take approx 500. There are plenty of npc farming threads on here to find out what you need.
Techs. Don't worry about Privateering, Machinery, or engineering until you have nothing better to do. It's hard to say what's best to research, but archery is important to lvl all the way up. For balistas to be able to farm npcs with no losses, it is important to keep archery above horseback riding (hbr). you can find the proper ratios in the farming threads.
Resource fields. You'll need to build farms at first to feed your troops. As well as build quarries to have stone in order to build buildings. When you get big enough to raid npc's, start tearing these two things down. I keep some farms, but food is so cheap at the market place I don't really need to. So make at least 3/4, if not all, of your resource fields sawmills and iron mines. You use more lumber, so build accordingly. Then you can sell lumber and iron at ridiculous prices and buy stone and food as you need it.
That's all I have for now. I'm always open for new ideas, and i don't know everything, so if any one has anything to add, I would be glad to hear it.

I like the game and wonder if someone can see progress. I am disable and spend a lot of time with my machine. Who ever picks this message up I would thank you for your help.
