I've been hearing alot of things about the rank one alliances on some of the newer servers which I don't exactly like. Stuff to the effect of "This alliance owns the server" (when they have no sisters, no allies and are at war w/ half the server). I myself am getting a bit sick of it so I'm making a guide on coordination between alliances (Your sister alliances and allies both work.) Now, I know there ARE alliances that have very good players and coordination, but they are possible to take down if you have enough determination.
First off, it IS possible to defeat an uber coordinated alliance, but you need to be just as coordinated. Keep CONSTANT contact between each alliance in the group, with the host (and members if needed). Also, crappy chat systems like Xat won't really work in these situations due to the fact that they are open and easily viewable. I extremely recommend Skype or TeamSpeak for optimum contact. Setting up an IRC chat is good, but everyone has to know how to use it and be active on it which isn't exactly feasible at times. Email is a good idea as well since in-game email isn't always the best way of reaching somebody.
Evolliance is great for storing coords, but its not that good in the areas of coordination. A spreadsheet will work just fine in those cases. Also, Evo is a bit tedious to update which makes me less inclined to use it. Another reason I don't like it is because in my experience, not many people actually get on it that often, so posting a bunch of crap on its forums and expecting everyone to be on the same page isn't smart.
If you have neighbors in an alliance that you are coordinating with, you should mail them every so often and see if they are still active. If you need help hitting something, just ask. If they can and their alliance is dedicated to the 'group', then they will most likely help you out if you need to hit somebody bigger than you.
Another good idea is to make bimonthly 'strike groups'. The idea behind this is to gather some of the strongest and most trustworthy players in each alliance and getting a decent chat, (again, I recommend skype, teamspeak, or possibly even that minichat like the one that Evolliance has.) Once you get this set up, give every alliance host prior notice and let em know when its going down. Don't tell anyone who you are planning on hitting, just say, Strike Force @ 10:10, 10-10-10, see if any of your members want to participate in this.
Once you are situated in the chat, and have all the members you need, start deciding who you hit first. Then, strike hard and fast. For best results, hit one player at a time and try to do it so everything gets there in the same general time. If you do this, you can take out somebody that has over 5x your prestige easily. Also, hit all of that player's towns so that they can't effectively reinforce and need their alliance members to do it, which may or may not happen. I mean, if you have 5 cities, are you only going to defend one and let the other four get taken??? I think not.
Lastly, you need to be able to defend yourselves against retaliation attacks during and after the hits are done. If you can't defend your own cities while attacking somebody elses you probably shouldn't attack until you can. However, you can have some of the alliance members that are either too far to attack the target or can't attack due to not having enough troops reinforce you so they don't feel like they didn't do anything useful. Since they aren't going to be in the enemy's war reports, there will be a lesser chance that the enemy will hit them, unless the enemy in question is too weak to go for anyone else.
If you have any comments or ideas, please post them or pm me.
